Ahmet Şefik Öngün

Ahmet Şefik Öngün, born in Ankara in 1952, graduated from TED Ankara College and completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Wales in the United Kingdom.

He has earned the CHARTERED ENGINEER status, which is given to electronics engineers in the UK who have successfully proven their professional responsibility over time.

Öngün, who has extensive experience in the business world, began his career as a Joint Director at GANMOUNT Group of Companies (London) between 1974-1992. In 1983, while living in England, he founded Gantek Teknoloji, Turkey's leading Information and Communications company, and has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors since 1992.

With 40 years of experience in the IT sector, Öngün is a competent electronics engineer, opinion leader, and team leader who has led numerous complex projects and has been instrumental in making a difference in Turkey and the Central Asian Republics.

Through the GANTEK ACADEMY, which he established, he focuses on introducing and transferring current corporate applications (such as Linux, open-source software, etc.) to young university graduates and corporate informatics.

During his career, he has pioneered the training and development of over 5,000 IT industry professionals.

Öngün also co-founded the KRON Company with his partners to develop software in the telecommunications sector, ensuring its rapid success and subsequent listing on Borsa Istanbul.

Öngün's contributions to the informatics sector extend beyond GANTEK and KRON. He has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors for TÜBİSAD Informatics Industrialists' Association and the Turkey Informatics Foundations, two prominent non-governmental organizations in the sector.

In December 2022, Öngün was honored with the "Lifetime Service Award" presented by TBD - TÜBİSAD to individuals who have worked in the IT industry for many years and have made significant contributions.

Öngün also holds the honorary position of Cook Islands Honorary Consul General of Turkey and is a TED Istanbul College Board of Trustees member.

Öngün has turned his passion for automobiles into support for education and has provided scholarships to hundreds of young people for their university education.

Öngün is married and has three children.
